Benedictine Abbey
La Abadía Benedictina del Niño Dios
By Carlos Sforza
In the middle of undulated landscapes, between the shade of aged trees and cared gardens, it’s placed “La Cultural Abadía del Niño Dios” (The Holy Child’s Cultural Abbey).
The quiet of the Benedictine Abbey welcomes the traveller, who arrives looking for the peace of this sacred place.
In august 29th of 1899, a group of Benedictine Monks come to Victoria from the Abbey of Belloc, France.
With the help of notable citizen, they establish their community. Since then, Monks dedicate their lives to accomplish the Saint Benedict’s Rules, resumed in the maxim: “Ora et Labora” (Work and Pray).
Nowadays, the liturgical life follows the Benedictine Tradition according to the present time. To participate of the Monastic Mass -with its Gregorian Canticles- is a mystical experience, that transports the hearts of those who have the opportunity to be there.
Benedictine Community has contributed to the cultural growth of Victoria trough the establishment of several educational institutions.
Monacal Liquor
The natural liquor called “Monacal” made by the Monks -with a secret recipe based in 73 herbs- has achieved international fame. They also make products derivate from honey of their own beehives: candies, liquor, phytotherapical medicines, etc.
